KFMB-TV Official Contest Rules – INNOVATE 8: STEM INNOVATORS CONTEST
 
1. How to Enter. Enter online on cbs8.com/INNOVATE 8. No purchase necessary to enter or win. Contest is open to students in San Diego County ages 13 to 18. One valid video entry per contestant. Parent/Legal Guardian must enter child’s contest submission on www.cbs8.com on behalf of his/her child. Each video entry must be one minute or less showcasing how the student uses STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering or Math) to make San Diego a better place.

2. Contest Period.

a. Video Submission Period. Entries will be accepted from Monday, 3/30/15 through Friday, 4/24/15. All entries must be received by 11:59 p.m. PST on Friday, 4/24/15.

b. Finalist Judging Period. Judging to determine 8 finalists will take place between Monday, 4/27/15 and 5/1/15. Finalists will be notified by phone and/or email between 5/2/15-5/4/15 of their selection.

c. On-line Voting Period. 5/6/15 – 5/19/15. Voting ends on 5/19/15 @ 11:59pm PST.

3. The Prizes. One winner will receive one (1) $500.00 Visa Gift Card. The winner’s school or homeschool program will receive $500.00. All restrictions, expiration dates associated with the above mentioned gift card will be stipulated on the issued card. The eight finalists will each receive one (1) gift bag from UC San Diego and CBS 8 promotion material, such as pens, styluses with retail value under $100 per gift bag. KFMB-TV/ Midwest Television, Inc. (hereafter, KFMB) reserves the right to substitute any prize with another prize of equal or greater value. These prizes are nontransferable and non-assignable.

4. Selection of Eight Finalists. Selection of Winner. Following the submission period, an official judging panel consisting of representatives from the San Diego County Office of Education and UC San Diego will select eight (8) finalists to compete in the on-line voting contest. Entry submissions will be judged on following criteria: 1) Entry must incorporate theme of science, technology, engineering and/or math; 2) Creativity in expression of the above theme(s); 3) Originality; and 4) Video content. One (1) finalist will be selected as winner based on the most viewer votes. The top vote winner’s school or homeschool program will also be awarded $500.00.

4a. Voting. Viewers and/or mobile users will vote beginning 5/6/15 on cbs8.com/Innovate8 for their favorite video finalist; the video receiving the greatest number of votes by 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2015 at 11:59 p.m. will be deemed the prize winner and his/her school will also receive the grand prize. Voting is tracked by cookie/IP Address and will allow for one vote for per IP Address for one finalist every 24-hours until 11:59 p.m. on Tuesday, May 19, 2015. Automated voting of any kind is not allowed. Detection of said automated voting will lead to votes being voided. Any attempts to vote more than once par day with the same computer IP Address may result in disqualification of the submitted finalist and removal of votes.

5. Winner Notification. Winner will be notified by email and/or telephone on Wednesday, May 20, 2015. Failure to accept and take delivery of the Prize by close of business 30 days following initial email notification will result in forfeiture of all rights and interest in the Prize and it becomes property of KFMB-TV. The KFMB Stations are located at 7677 Engineer Road, San Diego, CA 92111. For directions to the KFMB Stations call 858.571.8888. Local winners will be required to present valid identification to redeem Prize. Winner may be featured on CBS 8, CBS NEWS 8, www.cbs8.com, www.ucsd.edu and/or www.sdcoe.net.

6. Eligibility Requirements. This contest is void where prohibited or restricted by law. Contest is open to middle school students in San Diego County ages 13 to 18. One valid video entry per contestant. Parent/Legal Guardian must ender child’s contest submission on www.cbs8.com on behalf of his/her child. Only one valid entry per person will be permitted. The following persons are not eligible to win Prizes or otherwise participate in this contest: Employees of KFMB, UC San Diego, the San Diego County Office of Education or other Sponsors, their respective parent, affiliates, subsidiaries, advertising sponsors and promotional agencies, and the immediate family members of each ineligible person.

7. Odds. The odds of winning depend on the total number of eligible entries received.

8. Sponsors. Contest sponsors are UPICKEM, Inc., KFMB, UC San Diego, and the San Diego County Office of Education.

9. Winner’s Responsibility.
Each winner is solely responsible for payment of all prize related fees or expenses not specifically mentioned, and for payment and reporting of federal, state and local taxes and may be required to complete an IRS form W-9. Each winner, by acceptance of the prize, agrees to release all Sponsors, and their parent and subsidiary companies, their offices, directors, employees, agents, shareholders, affiliates, suppliers, distributors, and advertising agencies from all liability, claims, or actions of any kind whatsoever for injuries, damages, or losses to persons and property which may be sustained in connection with the receipt, ownership, or use of the prize or promotion.

10. Conditions of Entry. By submitting a video, each entrant grants irrevocable permission, without further compensation to KFMB-TV, contest “Sponsors,” “Partners” and their agents, licensees and assigns, to use, reproduce, edit and display the entrant’s name, voice, video, photograph, likeness and biographical material for broadcast on KFMB-TV, online at cbs8.com or on the INNOVATE 8 webpage, CBS 8 webpage and social media sites and mobile platforms for all promotional purposes in connection with the contest. For each entry selected as a finalist, the parent/legal guardian will be contacted and asked to submit a signed release. Finalists who fail to provide a signed release prior to the beginning of the voting period will not be allowed to participate in the voting portion of the contest and an alternate finalist may be selected at the discretion of KFMB-TV.

11. Tampering and Delivery Disclaimer. KFMB-TV is not responsible for lost, damaged, late, misdirected, incomplete or illegible entries, or technical problems incurred while entering via the internet. If for any reason, the Internet-related portion of this contest is not capable of running as planned, including Internet crashes or slowdowns caused by network congestion, viruses, sabotage, satellite failures, electrical outages, natural disasters or acts of man or God, or any other cause which corrupts or threatens the administration, security or integrity of the contest, the Sponsors reserve the right, in their sole discretion, to terminate or suspend the contest or any portion of the contest. Any attempt to damage or undermine the fair and legitimate operation of this contest will result in disqualification from the contest.

12. Copyright. The Contest and all of the related pages, contents and code pare copyrighted by UPICKEM, Inc., and/or KFMB. Copying or unauthorized use of any copyrighted materials, trademarks or any other intellectual property without the express written consent of its owner is strictly prohibited.

13. Conduct and Decisions. Contest entrants agree to abide by the terms of these Official Rules and by the decisions of KFMB-TV and the Contest judges, which are final on all matters pertaining to the contest. Due to breaking news coverage, the dates and/or end date of this promotion can be extended as needed. KFMB-TV reserves the right to change the rules at any given time without notice. For a complete list of winners, please send your request along with a self-addressed, stamped envelope to “KFMB-TV INNOVATE 8 STEM INNOVATORS CONTEST” c/o KFMB-TV, 7677 Engineer Road, San Diego, CA 92111. This list will be available for a 30-day period, 7-days following the official contest end date.
